Cable News Twitter Ratings for Sunday, May 25, 2014 — Blackfish makes a final splash!

The last showing (for now…) of Blackfish on CNN managed to just beat out the Melissa Harris-Perry show for best hour.  Although in this case, the timing of the show creates a sort of timezone issue: Blackfish was shown at midnight EDT, which is 9pm PDT.  Logically, you could assert that it really belonged to Saturday’s ratings and not Sundays.  Most other logical views of the TV schedule view a day as ending at 3am EDT / midnight PDT, is a contrast.  I don’t, an normally it doesn’t matter that much, but in this case it does.

Cable News Twitter Ratings for Friday, May 23, 2014 — Guess who, again…

Blackfish wins again.

Note to readers: A kind soul pointed out that I was probably not using all of the search terms I should for Fox News’ Red Eye.  I am almost certainly undercounting their mentions. This is fixed, going forward, but historical values should be looked upon skeptically.

The construction of the filters for various shows is often largely detective work (especially when the viewers use an unofficial hashtag or the shows themselves do not document their accounts and hashtags), and is always subject to error.  And I am certain I make many errors.

So if you suspect error, or are just curious, feel free to flag me down on Twitter (@socialseercom) or via email.  I am always happy to improve the statistics!

Cable News Twitter Ratings for Thursday, May 22, 2014 — Blackfish circles the tank

Blackfish wins.  Not just best show, but most popular topic for the day.

Come on, CNN, why not just run the damn thing 24/7?.  You’ll save a lot of money.  It’s not like you’re planning on staying a news organization much longer.  You’ve turned Headline News into HLN, which I assume is short for Harpy Legal News.  You’re not sure whether you want to free your fish with Blackfish or fry them up with Bourdain.  And, apparently, the only news worth covering is either outrage or disaster.  My god, you lost Ali Veshi to Al Jazeera!  Al Jazeera! What’s next? Fareed Zakaria moves over to Comedy Central? (To be fair to Comedy Central, they do cover the news with more depth, so this could be a great idea).
