Well, Piers Morgan got his mojo back yesterday, as his Twitter mentions returned to high levels. Crossfire’s mentions popped back up, while HLN doesn’t seem to try to engage socially…

Twitter Cable News Ratings for 2013-09-11 …
- Best engagement during their live broadcast: The Ed Show. My wife texted me a screen grab, noticing the live display of tweets behind Ed. Whoever you are on Ed’s team who does social media, you’re doin’ it right.
- Best engagement throughout the day: Hannity, followed by Morning Joe. It helps to either (a) have a radio show or (b) be on the air for several hours. I may want to look more closely at the distribution of tweets during the radio show vs. TV show to fine tune this.
- Most puzzling: Piers Morgan dropped like a rocket.
- Rut-Roh: Crossfire seems to be losing engagement. Let’s see if this is a trend or a fluke.
Sadly, I was on the road today and didn’t get to catch the coverage. My wife tells me there was quite a bit of 9/11 coverage, and I wonder if that affected the Twitter mentions.
Here are the counts of Twitter mentions for the day:

Here are the Twitter Cable News Mention Counts for 2013-09-10.
Once again, Piers Morgan is the champion of social media…and Crossfire is doing great for only being on the air for 30 minutes.
As always, read the note at the end of the post. And the programs behind this are still a work-in-progress, so if you see something odd, let me know!
Cable News Twitter Ratings for 2013-09-09 – Crossfire Returns Edition!
On Monday, 2013-09-09, CNN’s Crossfire returned to the air with four new hosts, Van Jones, Newt Gingrich, SE Cupp, and Stephanie Cutter. And although some of the reviews I’ve seen have been mixed, the 4000+ mentions on Twitter it received (and nearly 6000 if you include the mentions of the 4 hosts’ accounts), put it on a par with some of the best shows (in terms of social engagement). And all that for a half-hour show instead of an hour!
Piers Morgan continues to burn up Twitter. I have to say that he consistently does really well on Social Media, and I plan to write up a special blog post in the next few weeks looking at his social media prowess.
The Daily Rundown got 1337 mentions on Monday, which is spells “Elite” (LEET) in hacker speak. Chuck Todd does seem a bit nerdy…

Cable News Twitter Ratings for Sunday 2013-09-08
There were two notable things that happened on Sunday:
- The premiere of “#MediaBuzz” on Fox News at 11am, up against CNN’s Reliable Sources. And MediaBuzz turned out to be worth of its name, scoring over 700 Twitter mentions for the day as compared to Reliable Sources 166.
- MSNBC sneaked in a repeat of “Advancing the Dream” without advancing the notice. Other than a few tweets from people connected with the show, the re-run didn’t show up in TV schedule listings, on the MSNBC website, or in any other form that I saw. As a result, while the show gained over 4000 mentions on Friday, the day of its live showing, it struggled to make 80 mentions during the second showing and a bit over 200 overall during the entire day. Clearly MSNBC under did the publicity for this repeat showing, and so few people were engaged or (we can surmise) watching.
