Kelly wins Cable News Twitter on Monday, October 6, 2014

I guess Piers Morgan didn’t do the trick for Hannity, as The Kelly File was still able to top Sean for best hour, leaving him with his usual best day.  (To be fair, though, I didn’t include tweets that only mentioned Piers, which could have tipped the scales).

All in all it was a quiet day. Following Kelly for best hour was Hannity, Hayes, Morning Joe, and Maddow.  Following Hannity for best day was CNNi, Kelly, Morning Joe, and The Five.

Periodically, special interest groups will aggressively use Social Media to advance their cause.  Such was the case on Sunday, as people concerned with ISIS’s attack on the town of Kobane used Twitter to voice their concerns:

Richard Lui wins Cable News Twitter on Sunday, October 5, 2014

This one’s a bit interesting: Richard Lui, who was anchoring the 3pm hour of news on MSNBC Sunday, won Cable News Twitter yesterday with the best hour.  The best day overall was had by CNN International.  Following Lui was Parts Unknown, both hours of Kornacki, and HBO’s Last Week Tonight:

As you can see, Lui and Bourdain were pretty much in a league of their own in terms of Twitter engagement.  It’s also interesting to see how well Last Week Tonight is engaging: the two HBO shows that are “news” (Real Time with Bill Maher and John Oliver’s LWT) both do fairly well.

Ebola and The Blood Moon Eclipse Other Topics on Cable News Twitter on Saturday, 10/4/14

Cable News Trending Topics for 2014-10-04

While Ebola was the dominant topic on Twitter on Saturday, a quirk of the stats pushed “Moon” to the most popular word because of this tweet:

Had they only used the word moon once, ebola would have won (we’ll ignore the word “will”, which occasionally is a person’s name but not today, and #CashinIn isn’t a topic per se). So, we can say that Ebola was eclipsed by the moon…

If it’s Saturday, it’s “Cashin’ In”.

Another strong Saturday for Cashin’ In, whose fan base engages early, strong, and long with the show, giving it the best hour and best day on Cable News Twitter.  And not by a little, but by a lot:

Following Cashin’ In for best hour was Judge Jeanine, 10 am Melissa Harris-Perry, 11 am MHP, and 9 am Kornacki.  Following Cashin’ In for best day was CNN International, Hannity, MSNBC Live (news without a star anchor), and Harris-Perry.

It’s worth noting that The Melissa Harris-Perry show was guest hosted on Saturday (and Sunday) by Dorian Warren.  Many times having a guest host will dampen the show’s Twitter ratings, but Mr. Warren did well on Saturday.
