The Melissa Harris Show has a great hour and a great day on Sunday, with somewhere between 2x and 3x the number of mentions she normally receives. Compare that to just the day before: 1665 mentions in her best hour vs. Sunday’s 3011, and 4374 total mentions vs. Sunday’s 7062. It’s amazing what the right topics and events will do!

Cable News Twitter Ratings for Wednesday, December 4, 2013 — Goodbye, Martin Bashir
It was announced Wednesday that Martin Bashir had resigned from MSNBC, and that was good enough to give his show the best hour during the day — even though he wasn’t there. It was hard to count all the mentions of Martin himself on Twitter, as people were inconsistent in how they mentioned him, but my estimates are that, for the day, there were between 16K and 75K tweets that discussed him (depending upon how fuzzy the search).
What’s interesting is not really how many tweets he got on Wednesday (or even on Thursday), but how many he will get in the days to come: Is the anger (and, on some folks’ part, joy) about his being seemingly forced out going to last, or will it all be forgotten in a week. We’ll watch.
