MSNBC’s the Ed Show managed to bag the best hour on Friday with over 1600 mentions during its broadcast. That’s a bit more impressive when you consider that only 4 shows managed to make it over 1000 mentions besides Ed: Morning Joe, AC 360, and All In with Chris Hayes.

Not quite as strong of a day as yesterday for Ukraine, but it’s still in top spot. Interestingly, Obama is trending higher than Putin, which means the focus has shifted a bit from the events to the reaction to the events. Which makes sense, I suppose, given that on the ground not much is happening at the moment.
I note the appearance of “#turkishncosdeathfasting” in the list of hashtags. Let’s see if that turns into the next big story the way the early appearance of Ukrainian hashtags predicted the events there.
Cable News Twitter Ratings for Wednesday, March 5, 2014 — Strong Showing for The Ed Show
Wednesday was a strong day for MSNBC’s The Ed Show, who managed to beat out a strong showing by The Rachel Maddow Show. TRMS‘s showing is a notable as that show doesn’t cater to social media the same way The Ed Show does, and so that indicates a particularly strong response. Also noteworthy is The Colbert Report‘s strong showing: in a half hour, it got about as many mentions as All In With Chris Hayes collected in an hour.
