Cable News Twitter Ratings for Thursday, April 10, 2014 — Colbert to CBS

The announcement of Steven Colbert taking over for David Letterman drove his mentions to the stratosphere, giving him the best half-hour and the best day.  After Colbert the leaders were Morning Joe, The Ed Show, and The Kelly File.

The Kelly File has been getting some good social media engagement as of late, which could mean either that she’s getting more engaging topics or that they’re getting better at social media.  Either way, it’s an improvement for Fox News.

Trending Topics in Cable News: Stabbings, Spellings, and Emoji

Cable News Trending Topics for 2014-04-09

The mass stabbing in Pennsylvania was the dominant topic on cable news Twitter yesterday.

Some amusing things, though:

The misspelling of Vladimir, “Vladamir”, was much more popular than the correct spelling. I guess folks feel off-putin by Russian first name.

The hashtag “#TheCycle”, used by MSNBC’s show The Cycle, was the most popular hashtag related to cable news yesterday.  Was the show suddenly popular? Did they say something provocative?

Sadly, no, it was a bunch of people using it for purposes unrelated to the show.  A big bunch, with tweets like:

Unless that’s emoji commentary on Abby Huntsman, I think we can safely assume the show was not the topic…
