Cable News Trending Topics for 2014-07-15

Any day where Dick Cheney and Hamas are in the same conversation is an interesting one.  Throw in a border crisis and you have a world where foreign affairs are crowding out the rest of the conversation.

Despite the GOPs incessant caterwauling about all these issues, in the long run the focus is going to be a win for the President: he, alone, has the power to act on these issues.  Were I running the White House, I would adopt a strategy of “Obama acts, Congress debates”, and try to portray Congress as a bunch of old windbags enamored with the sound of their own voices.  This is a tried and trued method of the President scoring points…

Cable News Twitter Ratings for Tuesday, July 15, 2014 – Fox News shows its strengths

Hannity and The Kelly File grabbed Best Day and Best Hour once again.  What’s interesting is that the Kelly File has really shifted into high gear and is consistently getting great engagement on Social Media.

Tuesday represented the second day of José Díaz-Balart’s new show on MSNBC and, not too surprisingly, his engagement dropped from his opening day.  Nonetheless, it remains respectable for a mid-day show.  We’ll see what level he settles out during the day.

I also notice that MSNBC has put its crime programming into the 3am and 4am hours. That seems like a mistake as it presents an opportunity to showcase some of its dayside properties to people who might never be able to see them.
