The Colbert Report managed to pull down over 75K mentions on Thursday, making it by and far the most popular show on Cable News. It also propelled Comedy Central to the most engaged network (with only an hour of “news” programming!).
About 15% of the Colbert mentions included #CancelColbert. Nice try…
The mass stabbing in Pennsylvania was the dominant topic on cable news Twitter yesterday.
Some amusing things, though:
The misspelling of Vladimir, “Vladamir”, was much more popular than the correct spelling. I guess folks feel off-putin by Russian first name.
The hashtag “#TheCycle”, used by MSNBC’s show The Cycle, was the most popular hashtag related to cable news yesterday. Was the show suddenly popular? Did they say something provocative?
Sadly, no, it was a bunch of people using it for purposes unrelated to the show. A big bunch, with tweets like:

Interesting to see the hashtag #MB_Europe show up in US Cable News Tweets. The tag appears to be a protest against the muslim brotherhood and muslims in Europe.
