Congressional Staffers Top Topics in Cable News Twitter for Thursday, December 11, 2014

Cable News Trending Topics for 2014-12-11

Thursday was a day full of tweet-worthy topics: The torture report, police killings, budget shenanigans.  So what won out? The top topic was congressional staffers walking out to protest police violence, followed by torture and Stephen Colbert:

The top word for the day, “just”, appears in several unrelated tweets with multiple meanings.  Some mean now, as in the phrase “just in”.  Some are in the sense of only, like “just him”. A few are in the sense of justice. But there’s no consistent usage I can discern to make it a topic unto itself.

The Situation Room Blitzes Cable News Twitter on Thursday, December 11, 2014

CNN’s Situation Room & Wolf Blitzer won Cable News Twitter yesterday on the strength of one tweet:

With this, and all the other tweets that mention him and his show, Wolf Blitzer’s mentions topped 16K for the day, a very strong showing.  Following Wolf for best day was Hannity (12K mentions) and Colbert (8.7K).

In best-hour news, Hannity won with a fairly average (for him) result.  He was followed closely by Kelly, and then more distantly by The Situation Room, Ed Show, and Morning Joe:
